How to Create a Team in Jira Easily 2026

By Impran M N

When staff profiles are scattered across disconnected groups, it's hard to keep ownership clear across projects. This guide covers creating an Atlassian Team inside Jira, adding members, configuring access, and assigning issues to that team once it's set up.

01Open the team creation menu

From your Jira Cloud dashboard, use the Teams option in the main header menu and select Create a Team.

02Name and describe your team

Enter a team name, optionally upload an avatar, and write a short description of what the team is responsible for.

03Add team members

Use the Add People field to type in the names or emails of the people who should be part of the team.

04Set access permissions

Choose whether the team allows open joining or requires approval, depending on how tightly you want to control membership.

05Assign issues to your team

Open an existing issue, locate the Team field, and assign it to your newly created team so work can be tracked under that group.
