By Impran M N
Linking out to documentation, related tickets, or external resources makes a Jira issue far more useful to whoever reads it later. This guide covers how to add a clickable hyperlink to an issue description or comment.
01Open the issue field you're editing
Click into the description or comment field on the Jira issue where you want to add the link.
02Select the text you want to link
Highlight the word or phrase that should become the clickable link.
03Use the link tool in the editor
Click the link icon in Jira's text editor toolbar, which opens a field for entering the URL.
04Paste the URL
Enter or paste the destination URL and confirm to apply the link to your selected text.
05Save your changes
Save the description or submit the comment, then click the link to confirm it opens correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just paste a raw URL and have it become clickable?
In many cases Jira will auto-detect a pasted URL and turn it into a link automatically, but using the link tool gives you control over the display text.
Can I link to another Jira issue?
Yes, you can hyperlink text to another issue's URL, or use Jira's issue linking feature for a more structured connection between tickets.
Does the hyperlink work the same way in comments and descriptions?
Yes, the same text editor and link tool are used in both fields, so the process is consistent.
Why isn't my link showing as clickable after saving?
Double-check that the URL was entered correctly and includes the proper protocol, such as https://, since a malformed URL may not render as a link.
