Whether you're canceling forwarding or switching to a new destination, removing a Squarespace domain forwarding rule takes just a minute. This guide also covers restoring your original DNS records afterward so your site keeps working correctly.
01Log in and open Forwarding
Sign in to Squarespace, select the website tied to the domain, then click Website in the left sidebar and scroll to Forwarding.
02Find the rule to remove
Each rule is listed with its subdomain, like @ or www, and its destination URL.
03Delete the rule
Click the trash icon or Delete button next to the rule, then confirm the deletion when prompted.
04Restore your DNS records (optional)
Go to Settings, Domains, DNS Settings, and re-add records that were removed for forwarding, such as an A record for @ pointing to 198.185.159.144 and a CNAME for www pointing to ext-cust.squarespace.com.
05Wait for propagation
Changes can take a few minutes to go live and up to 24 hours to fully propagate across networks.
